Social Anxiety

It's more than just being "shy"

When you know you have to leave your safe bubble and interact with other people you can feel your anxiety grow. Your heartbeat speeds up, you feel a lump in a throat, you feel nauseous, and maybe you cry in anticipation of talking to someone.

You brainstorm ideas on how to get out of it. You could say your sick, or your kid is sick. You could offer a trade, "hey, I'll do all the dishes and cook dinner if you make this phone call for me." Maybe you just don't do it, even if it's something you wanted to do, "I bet Beyonce isn't THAT good live."

When you have to be in a social setting, especially a new one, you feel like people are judging you. You replay previous awkward encounters. You are terrified that people are talking about you, laughing at you.

You boss up and brave being out in the world, but your heart races, you sweat, you get tongue-tied. How long do you need to stay before you can leave? No one else seems to understand how you feel. They tell you you're shy or too sensitive.

This is not just in your head. You are not weak. Social anxiety is real. It is exhausting. They are also keeping you from the life you want
