Adolescent Counseling (Ages 10-18)
The rollercoaster of being a teenager
For teens: Growing up is hard. You don't know what you're doing. Just getting through the day seems so hard. You see your friends and other people you go to school and they don't seem to be struggling like you are. You don't feel normal. You cry for no reason and you wonder if this is how you're going to feel forever.
You don't know who to trust. Your friends care, but they aren't able to help you the way you want to be helped. Your parents can't give you what you need either. You like the idea of talking to someone else, but is it going to help me feel better? Are they going to tell my parents everything I say?
You are our client, not your parents. We believe that growth and healing happen when you're allowed to express your deepest secrets and thoughts without fear. I'm not going to lie, in some very, very specific circumstances we would have to share your secrets, but we'll make sure you know all of the rules before getting started. We'll also talk to your parents about the value of privacy and safety during therapy.
You don't have to wait until you're an adult to feel better.
For parents/guardians: You don't recognize your child anymore. You wonder if this normal. You wonder if you did something wrong. Mostly you just hate seeing your child in so much pain.
We understand kids. We know the difference between normal parent/teen conflict and a kid that needs additional support navigating adolescence.
When kids enter treatment, often they share things with us that need to stay private to create an emotionally safe environment. We will reach out in cases where the child's safety is at risk. Your teen's therapist will explain the privacy rules prior to the first appointment.
Areas of expertise for our therapists include:
Depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders
