Okay, I'm ready to stop.
For a long time, you've had it under control, a little here, a little there no one even notices.
Over time, your loved ones comment on how much tolerance you have, then how maybe you've had enough. Maybe you're starting to not feel as good the next day. Maybe it's getting harder and harder to get through the day without thinking about or using substances. Maybe you've had some legal trouble because of substance use. Maybe it's hurting your job performance or your relationships. Whatever your motivation, you've decided to stop using. Now what?
It's freaking hard to quit! You've tried on your own and you do well for a while then slide back into the same habits. You get more and more down on yourself. It's not your fault. It's really not. If quitting were easy you would have already done it.
In therapy, you'll learn new ways to manage the feelings that can lead to substance use. You'll develop strategies on coping with triggering situations. You'll learn self-compassion that can help you stay sober and rebound faster if you slip. You will reconnect with your goals and values to help you make more fulfilling choices. You can learn that there's still fun and joy and ease in a life without substances.
